About

About Grasse Electric

My name is Todd Grasse. I am a Red Seal Journeyman Electrician and I run Grasse Electric, an owner-operated electrical contracting business based in Red Deer and working across Central Alberta since 2018. When you call, you get me — on the phone, and on site.

Owner-operated, and that is the point

Grasse Electric is one electrician. There is no dispatcher taking your description of the problem and relaying a shortened version of it to somebody else. The person you describe the fault to is the person who shows up, does the work, and is still responsible for it afterward.

That shapes what I take on. I am good at service work, troubleshooting and non-routine jobs, and that is deliberately where I keep the business. I am a licensed electrical contractor in Alberta, insured, and WCB covered.

Grasse Electric is a service-area business. I work out of service vehicles rather than a storefront, so there is no shop to come to — the work happens at your building, your yard or your equipment.

Troubleshooting first, then the repair

Most of my work starts with something that has stopped running and nobody knows why. My approach is to find the fault before anything gets replaced. Guessing at parts is expensive, and on equipment that is already down it wastes the time you have least of.

So the order is: prove the supply, prove the load, follow the circuit, and find the actual break. Once I know what is wrong, the repair, rewiring or installation that fixes it follows from that — and I can tell you what it will take rather than estimating around a guess.

That covers electrical troubleshooting, motors, controls and VFDs, electrical controls, equipment and machine wiring, panels and equipment power, generators and light towers and commercial lighting. The full list is on the services page.

Equipment I bring with me

Service work goes badly when the electrician has to leave for tools. I run service vehicles and an enclosed trailer, and I have lift access for field service, lighting installations and specialty projects. That means a high-bay lighting job or an overhead repair does not wait on rented access being scheduled in.

The work I am best at

A fair amount of what I do is equipment nobody has documentation for. One-off builds, machines that were modified by a previous owner, control panels wired by three different people over twenty years, and gear that was imported without a wiring diagram. Non-routine service problems are normal work here rather than an exception.

Manufacturer experience includes drives such as Schneider Altivar, TECO and Lenze. Grasse Electric is an independent electrical service contractor, not an authorized distributor or factory service provider.

Who I work for

Commercial and light-industrial

Shops, service buildings, plants and commercial sites — power, lighting, distribution and equipment work. See commercial and industrial.

Agricultural

Farms and acreages: outbuildings, barn lighting and power, and equipment supply. See agricultural and farms and acreages.

Contractors and property managers

Electrical support for other trades and for people responsible for a building they do not occupy themselves.

Equipment rental

Generators, light towers and site distribution — repairs, testing and getting units fit to go back out.

Automotive and machine shops

Lifts, exhaust fans, machine power and shop lighting. See automotive shops and machine shops.

Selected residential

I take some residential work, usually where it sits alongside the kind of service and troubleshooting I already do.

Where I work

Red Deer and the surrounding area: Red Deer County, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Penhold, Springbrook, Innisfail, Lacombe, Ponoka and Morningside. If you are near the edge of that, phone and ask — it depends on the job.

What I do not do

Worth saying plainly, so nobody wastes a phone call.

This is a one-electrician operation. I do not take large new-construction builds that need a crew on site for months — that is a different kind of company and you are better served by one. I also do not do PLC software programming. I will work on the wiring, the field devices and the control hardware around a PLC, but the software inside it belongs to someone who specializes in it.

After-hours service is available at an additional charge. Availability is confirmed by phone rather than promised in advance, because I am one person and I will not commit to something I might not be able to keep.

How to reach me

The phone is the fastest way. Tell me what the equipment or building is doing, what has already been tried, and whether it is down right now. Between that and a couple of questions I can usually tell you what the job involves and whether I am the right person for it.

Phone 403-872-8698 or email info@grasseelectric.ca. You can also see the kinds of work I do on the projects page, or use the contact form.
